The day I went to “At Perry Lane”

Posted on 18. May, 2012 by in Uncategorized

I couldn’t have picked a better place to do a drawing display and let people see me at work on one of my detailed doggie pencil drawings!!

I finally arrived driving through the maze of one way streets in Paddington, Sydney. Co-owners, Chris Davis and Gillian Morris made me feel welcome and part of the family as I set up my easel and started drawing Chris’ two dogs Olive and Chilli.

Lots of people and their dogs were there and even at one stage the café needed to shut their doors because they couldn’t take any more customers. Being their “quite” day I was amazed at the amount of people that came. We didn’t get a chance to take many photos and the ones we did take where at the end of the day (When it was quiet). I wish I had taken more, especially in the middle of the day when café co-owner Chris told me at one point he looked around the café to see everyone at the same time watch his dog Chilli come to life on paper. I think that would have been funny to see.

Chris was in awe of his portrait and kept walking over to say hi and see the detail up close, along with the other staff and even the chef!

I got to speak to quite a few fellow dog lovers and also had a chance to meet their furry best friends. I heard lots of funny and heart warming stories but what I forgot to ask was if their dogs had enjoyed an “At Perry Lane” Doguccino special!

I also had a chance to meet and speak to Tim who created and runs the website “PetRescue” Australia. In case you don’t know, PetRescue gives all animal shelters and rescue organisations Australia wide, a chance to list dogs and cats who are looking for forever homes for free. While talking to Tim and his dog Flower, we decided to get together and plan something together that will go towards PetResuce and the great job that they’re doing now, but that’s another story in weeks to come.

There were a few commissions ordered which a portion will be going to PetRescue and the RSPCA who participated on the day. Thank you to all who came and said hello, I had a great time and thankfully didn’t forget where I was and start belting out the songs from “Glee” amongst the diners (which is what I usually do when I’m alone).

I was treated to a great meal – YUUUUMMMMM! And if it wasn’t for the fact that Chris and Gillian invited me back to do another drawing display while my fellow dog lovers dine, I would definitely be going back for another meal and their great coffee!!

For great dog friendly atmosphere, hosts that make you feel like part of the family and a great meal visit…
